Fishers lost its first Hoosier Crossroads Conference game of the season in tough fashion on Tuesday, falling at Avon 3-2 in nine innings.
The Orioles scored in the first inning, but the Tigers tied it up in the fourth. Brooke Benson scored when Caroline Bernhardt reached on error. The score remained at 1-1 through the eighth inning.
Fishers got a run in the top of the ninth when Benson drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Kaylee Kardash. But Avon tied the game with one out in the bottom of the inning, then a single scored the winning run.
Courtney James, Hannah Mays and Olivia Stinson all had two hits, including a triple for James. Mays pitched all eight and a third innings, striking out four.
The Tigers are 4-1 in the HCC and 9-4 overall. Fishers travels to Yorktown this afternoon for a 5:30 p.m. game.

Greyhounds start week with two victories
Carmel picked up two wins to start the week.
On Monday, Carmel beat Brownsburg 4-3 at Cherry Tree Softball Complex. The Greyhounds got on top early, with two runs in the first inning. Sarah Goddard led off with a home run, then Megan Nichols scored on a passed ball. Stormy Kotzelnick singled in Nichols in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Ella Ohrvall led off with a double, then Nichols hit a double to send her home.
Nichols was 2-for-2 at the plate. Sommer Edwards pitched four innings to get the win.
Carmel won a Metropolitan Conference game over Lawrence Central 7-3 on Tuesday. The Greyhounds took a big lead in the third inning when Stormy Kotzelnick smacked a three-run home run into left field. Sarah Goddard and Megan Nichols also scored.
Nichols scored again in the second inning on Roop’s center field double. Ella Ohrvall hit a two-RBI double to send Sommer Edwards and Audrey Hussain home. Kotzelnick scored in the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice by Halle Robinson.
Roop had two hits. Edwards pitched four innings for the win.
Carmel is 8-6 and hosts Fishers on Monday.

Shamrocks beat Wildcats, fall to Eagles
Westfield split its first two games of the week.
On Monday, the Shamrocks made a big comeback in the seventh inning to beat Lawrence North 11-10 in a home game. Westfield trailed 10-6 going into the bottom of the seventh. Reghan Oland led off with a triple, and later scored on Sara Harmeyer’s RBI groundout. Natalie Deck singled in Avery Parker to cut LN’s lead to 10-8.
Savannah Arvin was hit by a pitch, then Madeline Hunter came in to courtesy run for her. Alexis McClure hit a single to load the bases. That brought up Emily Revercomb, and she hit a right field triple to score Deck, Hunter and McClure, thus winning the game.
Westfield scored three runs in the first inning. Arvin’s sacrifice fly sent Parker home, McClure singled in Brooklyn Carey, and Revercomb’s center field hit brought in McClure.
In the third inning, Deck batted Carey in, then Deck scored on a fielder’s choice by Revercomb. Parker hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Revercomb totaled five RBIs and was one of three Shamrock players with two hits; Deck and McClure were the others. Avery Wagner started the game, throwing five and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts. McClure came in for the final one and a third innings, getting the win.
Westfield dropped a Tuesday Hoosier Crossroads Conference game to Zionsville 12-7 on Tuesday. The Shamrocks took a 3-2 lead in the second inning: Oland hit a sacrifice bunt to score Harmeyer, who got on base earlier with a double. Parker then hit a home run, also scoring Caroline Maymon.
The Eagles scored six runs in the third inning to take the lead. Westfield scored twice in the third inning; Harmeyer doubled in Arvin, then scored when Oland reached on error. In the fifth inning, Revercomb scored on Maymon’s RBI groundout, then Oland singled in Arvin.
Harmeyer was 3-for-3 at the plate, with Parker, Maymon and Oland all getting two hits.
Westfield is 5-11 and hosts Mount Vernon on Friday.

Fast start carries Huskies to conference win over Cass
Hamilton Heights got off to a fast start, and that carried the Huskies to a 13-11 Hoosier Conference win over Lewis Cass in a Tuesday home game.
Heights scored seven runs in the first inning; Bayleigh Runner led off with a double, and Adyson Baber doubled her right back home. The Huskies collected 15 hits, five of them were doubles. Ashlyn Fletcher hit a two-RBI double in the first inning; Hailey Montgomery came in to run for Fletcher, and Sydney Buffum tripled her home.
The Kings took a 9-7 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Heights pulled away with three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. Alayna Baber singled in Runner, then Isabella Neiling’s right field hit scored Baber and Greene, who had gotten on base with a double. Runner’s second double of the game scored a run in the sixth inning.
Runner finished the game with three hits with Alayna Baber, Greene, Neiling and Sydney Massicotte all getting two hits. Adyson Baber pitched three and a third innings for the win, striking out five.
The Huskies are 2-11 and play at 5:30 p.m. today at Cass.

‘Blazers split early week games
University won a 2-1 game over Bethesda Christian on Monday. The Trailblazers scored both of their runs in the second inning: Tatiana Dunipace got home on a passed ball, then Haley Tomlinson singled in Grace Brenner.
Tomlinson and Brenner each had two hits. Kendra Stevens got the complete game win, striking out 10.
University lost to Seton Catholic 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday. Stevens pitched another complete game, tossing eight strikeouts.
The ‘Blazers are 3-6 and host Tindley on Thursday.
