Softball: Shamrocks get big victory at LC

The Westfield softball team got an overwhelming win at Lawrence Central Friday, by the score of 11-0.
Maggie Roh scored the Shamrocks’ first run in the first inning after Ava Kainrath hit a sacrifice bunt. Cara Snedeker hit an RBI double in the third inning to put Westfield up 2-0.
The ‘Rocks then added three runs each in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Avery Parker cracked a two-run home run and Allie Dolenc doubled in a run in the fourth; Roh scored in the sixth on a wild pitch, then Dolenc hit a sacrifice fly to score Parker and Snedeker connected on her second RBI double of the game. In the seventh inning, Roh and Dolenc had RBI base hits, with Parker blasting a triple to score a run.
Roh scored four runs in the game, with Parker scoring three and Samantha Breaux two. Roh and Dolenc each had three hits, with Roh also hitting a triple. Natalie Deck hit two doubles. Morgan Squires tossed eight strikeouts in four innings for the win.
Westfield is 3-3 and plays games against Mishawaka, Lake Central and Kankakee Valley today.

Noblesville dropped a 14-4, five-inning game at Whiteland on Friday.
The Millers started off strong, with three runs in the top of the first inning. Scout Duplaga singled in Reis Sjoholm, then Bella Schatko’s base hit sent Taylor Thompson and Gabby Fowler home.
Whiteland scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and steadily increased its lead from there. Noblesville’s fourth run came in the fifth inning, when Duplaga batted in Thompson.
Fowler and Duplaga both had two hits.
The Millers are 3-1 and host Lawrence North this morning for a doubleheader.

Carmel fell to New Palestine 12-2 in a Friday five-inning game at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning. Ella Ohrvall got on base with a double, then was sent home by Kylie Cunningham’s double.
The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the second and held the lead from there. The Greyhounds got a run back in the third; Sophie Esposito hit a double, then scored when Ohrvall reached on error. New Palestine added four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Cunningham had two hits, while Lily Sullivan also hit a double.
Carmel is 2-3 and hosts Ben Davis on Monday.
