There will be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 softball showdown at Hamilton Heights this weekend, as top-ranked Yorktown and second-ranked Guerin Catholic advanced to the championship game of Class 3A Sectional 24 after winning Thursday semi-final games.
The Tigers beat the host Huskies 9-0 in the first semi-final. Yorktown pitcher Alanah Jones pitched a no-hitter and only allowed one runner on base. Hayley Greene drew a lead-off walk in the fifth inning.
Lily Roush pitched a complete game for Heights, throwing four strikeouts. The Huskies finished their season 6-18.
The Golden Eagles sailed past New Castle 5-0 in Thursday’s second game. Guerin Catholic got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs: Victoria Flores singled in Ana Macha, then Izzy Kemp brought in Aliyah Dorsey.
Dorsey batted in Sarah Dilley for a third-inning run. Macha scored on an error in the fourth inning, then Kirsten Mascari completed the scoring in the seventh inning by batting in Kemp.
Macha was 4-for-4 at the plate, including a double. Alicia Flores and Dilley both had two hits. Alicia Flores pitched a complete game, striking out 19 against two hits and no walks.
The Golden Eagles are 21-2 and play Yorktown for the sectional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.
