The Hamilton Southeastern softball team opened up play at the Terre Haute South Lady Braves Bash Friday night with a 7-2 win over Mooresville.
The Royals scored three runs in the third inning. Lani Wyrick scored when Addy Justice reached on error, then Payton Fox hit a center field home run, also scoring Justice.
The Pioneers got a run back in the fourth inning, but Southeastern answered in the fifth when Sayla Stock scored for a 4-1 Royals lead. Stock hit a double earlier in the inning. Fox opened the sixth inning with another homer. Jenna Chase singled, then Paige Gould came in to run for her. Gould was home immediately, as Morgan Hicks smacked a left field home run.
Fox was 3-for-3 at the plate. Grace Swedarsky pitched a complete game, throwing 16 strikeouts.
Southeastern is 3-0 for the season and plays three games at the tournament today, against Edgewood (9 a.m.), Terre Haute North (11 a.m.) and Martinsville (2 p.m.).
