The Hamilton Southeastern softball team advanced to the championship game of the Class 4A north semi-state at Harrison last Saturday.
The Royals beat Fort Wayne Carroll in the first semifinal game 2-0. Southeastern scored in the third inning when Makena Burlingame sent Addy Justice home with a left field hit. Jenna Chase led off the fourth inning with a home run for HSE’s second run.
Justice (4-for-4) and Burlingame (3-for-3) were both perfect at the plate for the Royals. Grace Swedarsky pitched a no-hitter, striking out 19 and only allowing two runners on base.
Southeastern was to play Penn that night for the championship, but the game was rained out. It will now be played at 11 a.m. Monday at Harrison. The Royals are 23-4.
Heights also rained out
Hamilton Heights was also rained out of semi-state competition last Saturday. The Huskies were to play Tri-West at the Class 3A south semi-state at Jasper.
All games at Jasper have been rescheduled for Monday. Silver Creek plays Gibson Southern in the first game at 11 a.m., followed by Heights and Tri-West at 12:30 p.m. The championship is set for 5 p.m.
