Softball roundup: Royals win twice at FW Carroll

The Hamilton Southeastern softball team won two games Saturday at Fort Wayne Carroll.

The Royals played South Bend St. Joseph in their first game and won 12-0, scoring four runs in the seventh inning. Addison Richmond led off the game with a triple, then hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. She went 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring four runs and batting in two.

Sophia Feher and Kaleah McCarter both batted 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Tori Bricker had two hits, including a double. Madison Burlingame hit a two-RBI double in the third inning. Feher and Lilly Palmer both scored two runs.

Carly McCall pitched four innings for the win, striking out six. Natavia Wright struck out five in three innings.

Southeastern beat Carroll 6-2 in its second game. Kaitlyn Burdick hit a solo homer in the second inning.

The Chargers tied the game in the sixth inning, but the Royals put up five runs in the top of the seventh. Paris got home when Chloe Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, then Richmond’s center field hit brought in Burdick and Emmy Seifferlein. Feher sent a double into center field to score Richmond and Smith.

Burdick was 3-for-3 at the plate. Grace Swedarsky pitched a complete game, striking out 13.

Southeastern is 17-6 and plays at Franklin Central Tuesday and at Ben Davis Thursday before hosting Yorktown Friday in its regular-season finale.

Westfield fell to Mooresville 7-4 in a Saturday home game.

The Shamrocks’ Ava Kainrath doubled in Makayla Watson for a first-inning run. The Pioneers tied the game in the second inning, but Westfield went up 3-1 in the third; Cam Pulice doubled in Sofia Easterhaus and Watson.

Mooresville tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning. Reese Mahannah blasted a fifth-inning triple to score Pulice and give the ‘Rocks a 4-3 lead. But the Pioneers scored four in the sixth inning.

Pulice hit two doubles, while Watson had two hits. Watson had three stolen bases, tying the single-game record. Watson, a junior, has a school record 53 stolen bases for her Westfield career.

Chloe Tanner pitched three innings and struck out five. Mackenzie Delph threw 2.1 innings, striking out four.

Westfield is 11-10 and plays at Western Monday, then hosts Avon Tuesday and McCutcheon Thursday to finish the regular season.

Fishers dropped two home games Saturday.

The Tigers fell to McCutcheon 6-3 in their first contest. The Mavericks scored two runs in the second inning and four in the third. Fishers got all of its runs in the seventh inning: Kendall Jordan batted in Abby Shannon, who got on with a double, and Azstryd Alexander, then Hailey Kinder scored on a wild pitch.

Jordan and Cate Summerfield both had two hits.

The Tigers played Cascade in their second game, with the Cadets winning 16-8.

Cascade scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Jordan hit a home run in the bottom of the first, then Kennedy Shockley singled in Saylor Roberts for a second-inning run.

Alexander led off the third inning with a homer, then Jordan blasted another home run later in the third, also scoring Kinder to give Fishers a 5-3 lead. Brooke Clayton got a fourth-inning run on Shannon’s RBI groundout to put the Tigers ahead 6-3.

Cascade put up five runs in the top of the fifth, but Fishers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 8-8. Jordan and Kinder scored on a Kate Murray single in the fifth inning. But the Cadets scored two runs in the sixth inning and six in the seventh.

Jordan batted 4-for-4, with Kinder and Murray both getting two hits. Murray pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four.

The Tigers are 13-9 and host Franklin Central on Monday, then play Tuesday at Brownsburg. Fishers finishes the regular season at home with games against Anderson Thursday and Pendleton Heights on Friday.
