Hamilton Southeastern improved to 5-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference with a 3-2 win at Avon Wednesday.
The Royals scored one run in each of the first three innings. Abby Taylor scored in the first inning on an error. In the second inning, Nicole Dillow got home on an error. Finally, Kaelin Wincek hit a third-inning double to send Jordan Rager home.
Taylor finished the game 3-for-4, while Rager was 2-for-4. Dillow was 3-for-3 at the plate. Taylor hit a triple, with Rager and Libby Ratliff both hit a double.
Jaylah Guilliam pitched the complete game for the win.
The Royals are 13-5 overall and will play two games at Crown Point on Saturday, taking on the host at 10 a.m. and Boone Grove at noon.
Baber throws no-hitter as Huskies dominate Cass
Hamilton Heights had a “complete turnaround,” as coach Landi Lockwood said, Wednesday night: After getting run-ruled by Lewis Cass on Tuesday, the Huskies scored a run-rule win over the Kings, 13-0 in five innings.
“We talked about being confident at the plate and the girls really did a much better job with that tonight,” said Lockwood. “We had 15 hits compared to two last night against the same team.”
The Huskies scored in each inning, beginning with three runs in the first and finishing up with five runs in the fourth. Three different Heights players had three hits: Taylor Ewing, Bayleigh Runner and Jessica Kaurich.
Kaurich smacked a home run, and total six RBIs. Ewing and Runner both scored four runs. Hayley Greene was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and batting in three more.
“Ewing and Runner had a great night at the plate getting hits and getting on base and then Greene and Kaurich both had home runs that allowed us to put some runs on the board,” said Lockwood.
Adyson Baber pitched a no-hitter and issued no walks.
“Adyson Baber had one of her best nights of the season on the mound tonight,” said Lockwood. “She controlled her pitches, put it where we wanted and ended up throwing a no-hitter.”
Heights plays at Noblesville on Friday.
Golden Eagles cruise past Covenant Christian
Guerin Catholic cruised past Covenant Christian 8-1 in a Wednesday away game.
The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the first two innings. In the first, Ana Macha started with a single, then moved to third after Alicia Flores doubled to get on base. Victoria Flores then smacked a double into right field to send Macha home, and Hanna Bills’ line drive scored Alicia Flores. Natalie Mowid’s RBI groundout sent Victoria Flores home.
The big hitting continued in the second inning, with Macha’s center field double scoring Sarah Dilley. Macha would be sent home on a base hit by Alicia Flores. Guerin Catholic scored three more runs in the seventh inning; Macha scored after Madelyn Buckner reached on error, then Mowid cracked a triple to send Alicia Flores and Bills home.
Macha and Alicia Flores both finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while Victoria Flores was 2-for-4. Macha scored three runs, with Mowid driving in three. Alicia Flores pitched a complete game, striking out six.
The Golden Eagles are 4-6 and travel to Fishers today for a 5:30 p.m. game.
Harden’s one-hitter, Kotzelnick’s three hits send Carmel to MIC win
Cate Harden’s one-hitter and Stormy Kotzelnick’s perfect night at the plate propelled Carmel to a 3-0 win over Ben Davis in a Wednesday Metropolitan Conference game at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds scored twice in the first inning. Kotzelnick got on base with a double, and scored on an RBI single from Sarah Goddard. Brooke Bair was next, and her right field hit got Goddard home.
Kotzelnick scored again in the fifth inning, with Goddard hitting a double to send her home. Kotzelnick finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while Goddard was 2-for-3.
Harden pitched a complete game, giving up her lone hit in the sixth inning. Harden struck out seven.
Carmel is 4-1 in the MIC and 7-10 overall. Next up for the ‘Hounds is a Friday home game against Plainfield.
‘Hawks fall to Clinton Prairie
Sheridan dropped a 4-1 Hoosier Heartland Conference game at Clinton Prairie on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks scored their run in the top of the sixth inning, when Cassie Vargas hit a double to score Audrey Reed. The run tied the game at 1-1, but the Gophers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Vargas was 2-for-2 in the game. Reed stole three bases, with Vargas stealing two. Reed pitched the complete game, striking out nine.
The Blackhawks are 3-3 in conference play and 5-6 overall. They host Alexandria on Friday.
