Softball Roundup: Royals sail past Lawrence North; Fishers, Noblesville, Sheridan fall

The Hamilton Southeastern softball team sailed past Lawrence North 12-3 in a Thursday away game.

The Royals opened the game with a first-inning run, as Reese Garland batted in Addy Justice with a left field hit. In the third inning, Lani Wyrick got home on Jenna Chase’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Garland’s RBI fielder’s choice scored Justice. Keira Lodes then smacked a two-run home run, also scoring Garland, to put Southeastern up 5-0.

Wyrick sent a solo home run into center field in the fourth inning. The Royals accelerated to the finish with five runs in the sixth inning. Southeastern loaded the bases, then Chloe Smith scored when Wyrick reached on error, Justice singled Leah Paris home and Sayla Stock drew a walk to bring in Emmy Seifferlein. Garland sent a base hit into center field to score Wyrick and Justice. Megan Wincek blasted a solo home run into center field in the seventh inning to finish the scoring.

Justice went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Garland getting two hits. Ashley Ransom pitched a complete game, striking out eight.

The Royals are 9-2 and play Saturday at the Whiteland Warrior Invitational.

Fishers dropped a 4-1 home game to Yorktown on Thursday.

The Tigers scored their run in the third inning; Jenna Grubb got home on Brooke Johnson’s sacrifice bunt. Hailey Trueblood had two hits, while Kate Murray threw 10 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Fishers is 8-5 and plays at Lafayette Jefferson tonight.

Noblesville fell to Western 5-2 in a Thursday road game.

The Panthers scored their first run in the third inning. The Millers tied the game in the top of the fifth when Macie Duvall bunted in Addi Emmerson. But Western scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back home runs and held the lead from there. Gabby Fowler singled in Delaney Rundle in the sixth inning for Noblesville’s second run.

Fowler and Duvall both had two hits.

The Millers are 6-3 and begin play at the Carmel Invitational today. Noblesville hosts defending Class 4A state champion Penn at 5 p.m.

Sheridan fell to Eastern 19-2 in a five-inning Hoosier Heartland Conference game Thursday.

The Blackhawks scored both of their runs in the first inning, when Shelby Eaton singled in Abby Dallas and Emma Settles. The Comets scored all of their runs in the first three innings.

Sheridan is 2-7 and hosts Herron Monday.
