Softball roundup: Millers hold off Lawrence North

Noblesville held off a huge comeback by Lawrence North on Saturday to win 8-7 at the Wildcats’ field.
The Millers scored two runs in the first inning. Chloe Tragesser doubled in Ella White, then Emily Minett batted in Tragesser.
Lawrence North got on the board in the bottom of the third, but Noblesville extended its lead to 5-1 when Abby Brown smacked a three-run home run into center field. Minett and Rylie Moore also scored.
The Wildcats added another run in the fifth inning, and Noblesville answered in the top of the sixth. Alyssa Solomon’s center field hit scored Shea Sterrett. The Millers got two more runs in the top of the seventh, with Brown batting in Julia Furiak, and Rylie Newcomer getting home after Myah Stuckey reached on error.
Lawrence North trailed 8-2 at that point, but cut that lead to 8-5 with one out. Maddie Taylor got a strikeout for the second out. The Wildcats then hit a double that got two runs in, but the catcher Furiak made a tag at the plate to prevent the tying run from scoring.
Tragesser, Minett and Brown all had two hits, with both of Tragesser’s hits being doubles. Rylie Moore also had a double. Taylor totaled seven strikeouts.
The Millers are 3-2 and play Monday at Harrison.

Shamrocks split at LC Invitational

Westfield split a pair of games at the Lawrence Central Invitational on Saturday.
In their first game, the Shamrocks lost to Decatur Central 11-1 in six innings. Westfield scored its run in the top of the first, when Emily Revercomb hit a sacrifice bunt to send Avery Parker home. The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and never trailed after that.
Brooklyn Carey was 2-for-3 at the plate, with both of her hits doubles.
Westfield rebounded to beat Lawrence Central 19-4 in five innings in its second game. The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Shamrocks poured in five runs in the top of the second and never trailed again.
Natalie Deck hit an RBI single and Avery Wagner had an RBI groundout in the second inning. Parker smacked a two-RBI double in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Westfield loaded the bases, then Savannah Arvin scored after Zoe Klink drew a walk. That brought Wagner up, and she hit a grand slam into center field. Lexi Martin, Deck and Klink all scored.
In the fifth inning, the ‘Rocks had four straight RBI hits. Arvin doubled in Alexis McClure, Sam Stegner batted in Parker, Madeline Hunter hit a double to send Arvin home, and Deck singled in Stegner.
Deck finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate. Wagner pitched all five innings, striking out five.
The ‘Rocks are 2-7 and play Tuesday at Fishers.

Huskies drop hard-fought game at Delta

Hamilton Heights lost a hard-fought game at Delta on Saturday 6-4.
The Huskies scored their first run in the top of the first inning when Isabella Neiling stole home plate. The Eagles tied the game in the second inning, then scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the lead from there.
Heights got two runs back in the fifth inning. Adyson Baber doubled home Haley Greene, then scored herself when Bayleigh Runner reached on error. The Huskies scored their fourth run in the seventh inning; Baber batted in Hayley Greene, who tripled to get on base.
Greene, Baber and Runner all had two hits. Baber and Massicotte both hit one double.
The Huskies are 1-7 and play Tuesday at Tipton to start a Hoosier Conference series.
