Softball roundup: Millers edge out Royals

Noblesville won an all-county game between two of Class 4A’s top 10 teams on Tuesday.

The No. 7-ranked Millers edged out No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern 1-0 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at the Noblesville field. The Millers scored their run in the fourth inning when Reese Newsom got home on a wild pitch.

Noblesville collected five hits, including two from Delaney Rundle. Haley Schatko hit a fourth-inning double. Addison Retzinger pitched a complete game, with 11 strikeouts.

The Royals had four hits, with Maya Valenta going 2-for-3, including a double. Chloe Smith also hit a double. Grace Swedarsky also threw a complete game, tossing eight strikeouts.

The Millers are 4-1 in the HCC and 12-5 overall. Noblesville plays Thursday at Kokomo. Southeastern is 2-2 and conference play and 11-6 overall. The Royals host 2A No. 4 Lapel on Thursday.

Carmel dropped a 6-1 road game at No. 2 Center Grove on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds scored their run in the fifth inning when Taylor Vietch doubled in Megan Pike. Mia Fleming had two hits, including a double.

Carmel is 5-13 and hosts Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Fishers lost an HCC game at Avon 11-1 in six innings Tuesday.

The Tigers scored their run in the fourth inning when Kendall Jordan doubled in Hailey Kinder. Jordan was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Fishers is 1-4 in HCC play and 11-7 overall. The Tigers are back home on Thursday to host Danville.

Guerin Catholic lost 15-3 Circle City Conference game to 3A co-No. 1 Roncalli in six innings Tuesday.

The Royals, who share the top ranking with New Palestine, scored six runs in the fifth inning and eight in the sixth. The Golden Eagles scored their first run in the third inning when Lucy Kemp batted in Kate Brady with a left field hit.

Guerin Catholic’s Izzy Phillips smacked a left field home run in the sixth inning, also scoring Ava Augustinovicz, who got on base with a double. Augustinovicz was 3-for-3 at the plate, with Natalie Eiler getting two hits. Anna Mauch hit a double.

Augustinovicz pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four.

The Golden Eagles are 6-7 and play at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon at Covenant Christian.
