Softball roundup: HSE edges out Noblesville, Westfield, GC, Fishers lose conference matchups

The Hamilton Southeastern softball team beat Noblesville 5-4 in 11 innings Tuesday in a home Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Alex Kiemeyer drove in the winning run for the Royals, as her left field double scored Keira Lodes for the walk-off victory.

The Millers got two runs in the top of the first inning. Gabby Fowler’s right field hit sent Delaney Rundle home. Mack Harvey hit a double to move Fowler to third base, then Haley Schatko’s single brought Fowler home.

Makenna Selm doubled in Southeastern’s first run in the second inning, scoring Chloe Smith. Noblesville then put up two runs in the top of the third: Izzy Zapp got home on Reese Newsom’s sacrifice bunt, then Harvey scored on Schatko’s center field line drive, giving the Millers a 4-1 lead.

The Royals added a run in the third inning when Addy Justice scored on Lodes’ RBI fielder’s choice. Southeastern scored a fifth-inning run after Kiemeyer was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Garland home. The Royals tied the game in the sixth inning after Justice doubled in Lani Wyrick and the score stayed 4-4 until HSE walked it off in the 11th.

Wyrick, Justice, Makena Burlingame, Kiemeyer and Selm all had two hits for the Royals. Grace Swedarsky pitched 10 innings for the win, striking out 15 and allowing two hits. Schatko got two hits for Noblesville. Claire Cullen pitched six and one-third innings, while Lulu Van Beek relieved her for three and two-thirds innings. Both threw six strikeouts.

Southeastern is 3-0 in the conference and 13-3 overall. The Royals play another HCC game this evening at Zionsville. The Millers are 3-1 in HCC play and 10-8 overall; they host Kokomo on Thursday.

Westfield fell to Zionsville 3-2 in eight innings in a Tuesday HCC game.

The Shamrocks scored in the first inning when Avery Banas drew a bases-loaded walk to send Cara Snedeker home. The Eagles got on the board with two runs in the sixth inning, but Westfield tied the game in the top of the seventh: Makayla Watson singled Reese Mahannah home. Zionsville got the walkoff win on a two-out RBI single.

Watson had two hits, while Mahannah hit a double. Chloe Tanner pitched a complete game, striking out five.

The Rocks are 1-4 in conference play and 8-8 overall. Westfield hosts Center Grove on Thursday.

Guerin Catholic dropped a 4-2 Circle City Conference game at Roncalli Tuesday.

Lucy Kemp doubled in a first inning run for the Golden Eagles, scoring Hannah Abbott. The Royals took a 2-1 lead in the third inning and held the lead from there. Kemp scored in the sixth inning on a passed ball; she finished with two hits.

Guerin Catholic is 1-9 and hosts Covenant Christian today for another conference game.

Fishers dropped a 6-0 HCC game to Avon Tuesday.

Brooke Johnson and Tori Abel both had two hits for the Tigers. Kate Murray threw five strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings.

Fishers is 2-3 in conference play and 11-7 overall. The Tigers’ next game is Monday when they host Carmel.
