Softball roundup: Fast start sends Royals to win

Hamilton Southeastern kept its win streak going by beating Lawrence North 6-1 in a Thursday away game.
The Royals took the lead right away, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Libby Ratliff hit a single into left field to score Lillian Leiner. Nicole Lang then got on base with a single, then Kaelin Wincek reached on error, and that would bring Ratliff and Lang home.
Southeastern scored one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Abby Taylor sent Holly Hosfield home with the fourth-inning single. Lang scored the fifth-inning run on an error, and Ratliff’s sixth-inning single scored Leiner, who finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Taylor, Ratliff and Abbey Willmann all had two hits. Ratliff drove in two runs, and Lang scored twice.
Jaylah Guilliam pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
The Royals are 6-3 and will play at the Whiteland Tournament on Saturday.

Roncalli overwhelms Golden Eagles

Guerin Catholic dropped an 18-1 Circle City Conference game to Roncalli in five innings on Thursday.
The Golden Eagles scored their run in the fifth inning, when Elizabeth DiBlasio singled home Caitlin Collins, who got on base with a double in the previous at-bat. Alicia Flores also hit a double, while Madelyn Buckner was 3-for-3 at the plate.
Guerin is 2-4; all of its games have been conference games so far. The Golden Eagles host Warren Central on Monday.

‘Hawks drop extra-inning HHC game

Sheridan dropped a tough road game on Thursday, as Taylor beat the Blackhawks 4-3 in a nine-inning Hoosier Heartland Conference game.
The Titans went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run. Sheridan got a run back in the top of the third when Emma Went scored, but a fourth-inning RBI double got Taylor ahead 3-1.
The ‘Hawks then scored two runs in the sixth with their own double. Katy Crail hit one to center field, which scored Allie Delph and Audrey Reed. That knotted the score at 3-3, and it would remain so through the regulation seventh inning. Taylor won the game with one out in the ninth on a walk-off single.
Addyson Ream pitched a complete game, and only allowed seven hits across the eight and a third innings.
The Blackhawks are 1-4 and play at Westfield on Monday.

UHS finishes busy week, falls to Seton Catholi

The University softball ended its busy, three-game week against Pioneer Conference opponent Seton Catholic Thursday.
The Trailblazers fell 5-2. The top of the first inning ended with a double play by junior Haley Tomlinson, who caught a pop fly and was able to throw to sophomore Annie Klemsz who was at first base to get the girl at first out. During the bottom of the third, freshman Kendra Stevens doubled on a line drive to the right fielder and earned two RBIs for sophomore Elise Nachlis and Tomlinson.
At the top of the fifth, Tomlinson once again had a double play tagging out the advancing runner and throwing out the player at first to Annie Klemsz.
