Sheridan won a wild, big-hitting game with Delphi Thursday at Biddle Park, as Katy Crail’s seventh-inning home run lifted the Blackhawks to a 12-10 win.
Sheridan had to come from far behind to win, as it trailed 6-0 in the middle of the second inning. The ‘Hawks got on the board in the bottom of that inning when Bre Bouse hit a sacrifice fly to get Jayden Warren home. Warren had led off the inning with a double.
The Oracles added a third-inning run to go up 7-1. But Sheridan’s offense was starting to accelerate: Crail led off the third with a home run to left field. Later, Allie Delph got a base hit, then was sent home on a Caitlin Neese double to left field.
That brought the Blackhawks within 7-3. Sheridan would tie the game in the fourth inning: Taylor Bates, Crail and Riley Reed all hit singles to load the bases. That brought up Delph, and she hit an inside the park home run to left field, making the score 7-7.
Delphi took the lead back in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs to make it 9-7. But the ‘Hawks finally got in front in the bottom of the inning. Reed hit a single into center field, which sent Warren and Kayla Beahrs home and tied the game again. Crail moved to third base, and she stole home to give Sheridan the lead.
The Oracles tied the game at 10-10 in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, but a double play ended the inning. There would be no more scoring until the bottom of the seventh, but it came fast. Bouse singled on to base, then Beahrs came in to run for her. Beahrs moved to second on Bates’ sacrifice bunt. That brought up Crail, and her second homer of the day went into center field and gave Sheridan the win.
Warren finished the game 4-for-4, with Crail going 3-for-4. Reed, Delph, Addyson Ream, Neese and Bouse all had two hits, including a sixth-inning double for Ream. In addition, Ream pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
Sheridan is 1-1 and next plays Tuesday at Rossville.
