The Noblesville softball team opened its season with a big Hoosier Crossroads Conference win Tuesday.
The Millers played at Avon and pulled away late for a 10-3 win. Noblesville scored one run in the top of the first inning when Delaney Rundle got home on a wild pitch.
The Orioles scored twice in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 lead, but the Millers came back with two runs in the top of the second inning. Nevaeh Nash blasted a left field triple to bring home Addi Emmerson and Macie Duvall.
That gave Noblesville a 3-2 lead. The score stayed there until the sixth inning, when the Millers erupted for seven runs. Duvall bunted Faye Hostetler home, then Emmerson scored on Nash’s RBI fielder’s choice. Rundle cracked a left field triple to bring in Duvall and Nash, then Haley Schatko hit a three-run home run, also scoring Rundle and Izzy Zapp.
Rundle and Duvall both had two hits. Addison Retzinger pitched a complete game, striking out 12.
The Millers host Western Boone at 5:30 p.m. today.

Westfield cruised past Franklin Central 10-1 Tuesday in its HCC opener.
Ava Kainrath batted in the first run of the game, with a first-inning center field single that scored Sofia Easterhaus. Avery Banas scored in the second inning to give the Shamrocks a 2-0 lead.
Sydney Jordan smacked a two-run home run in the third inning, also scoring Reese Gettinger. The Flashes scored their run in the fourth inning, but that would be all.
Westfield put up three runs in the sixth inning. Dylan Todd scored when Kainrath drew a bases-loaded walk, then Chloe Tanner hit a left field double, bringing in Easterhaus and Makayla Watson.
The ‘Rocks scored three more runs in the seventh. Easterhaus cracked a two-RBI hit, scoring Gettinger and Jordan. Easterhaus got home later, when Kainrath reached on an error.
Jordan was 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting a homer and two doubles. Easterhaus and Watson both had two hits. Tanner pitched four innings for the win, with two strikeouts.
Westfield is 2-1 and plays at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon at Pendleton Heights.

Guerin Catholic zoomed past Beech Grove 10-4 Tuesday in a home game.
The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first inning. Madi Cain doubled Lauren Brady home for the first run, then scored when Anna Mauch hit a center field double. Kate Brady sent in the third run, with a single to score Mauch.
Jillian Davis scored the first of Guerin Catholic’s two second-inning runs. Davis led off with a double, moved to third on Lauren Brady’s single, then stole home plate. Lauren Brady scored on Lucy Kemp’s RBI groundout.
Kate Brady added a third-inning run, scoring on Izzy Phillips’ left field hit. The Golden Eagles put up four runs in the sixth inning: Kemp got home on an error, Natalie Eiler doubled in Ava Augustinovicz and Mauch, then scored after Davis reached on an error.
Cain, Kate Brady, Eiler and Davis all had two hits. Augustinovicz pitched a complete game, striking out four.
Guerin Catholic is 2-2 and returns to action April 15, hosting Brebeuf Jesuit to begin Circle City Conference play.

Carmel dropped a 5-3 game Tuesday at Plainfield.
The Quakers scored two runs in the first inning. The Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the fifth when Megan Pike and Ellie Goddard scored after Mia Fleming reached on error. But Plainfield put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on from there.
Jayden Kleiner scored a seventh inning run when Winni Owens hit a sacrifice fly. Kleiner and Lolah Pence both had two hits.
Carmel is 0-4; its Wednesday game with Mount Vernon was postponed due to weather. The Greyhounds return to action April 11 with two home games against Jasper and Bedford North Lawrence.

Hamilton Southeastern fell 4-1 Tuesday at Greenfield-Central.
The Royals scored on their first at-bat, as Addison Richmond sent a home run into center field. Southeastern had 11 hits for the game, but the Cougars did not allow the Royals anymore runs. Greenfield-Central scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Richmond, Kaleah McCarter and Chloe Smith all had two hits. Grace Swedarsky pitched two innings and struck out five, while McCarter pitched four innings with four strikeouts.
Southeastern is 2-1 and returns to action April 11 when it travels to the Castle Invitational. The Royals play games against Edwardsville (Ill.) and Daviess County (Ky.).

Fishers lost a 6-1 game Tuesday at Center Grove.
The Tigers scored their run in the fifth inning. Frankie Jackson hit a one-out double, then was sent home when Kennedy Shockley hit a double.
Hailey Kinder also had a base hit. Kate Murray pitched a complete game, striking out eight.
Fishers is 2-1; its Wednesday game with Harrison was postponed due to weather. The Tigers are back in action April 11 when they host New Prairie.
