Softball: Huskies and Golden Eagles meet at Greenfield

The Hamilton Heights and Guerin Catholic softball teams played each other Saturday in a game at the Greenfield-Central Cougar Classic.

The Huskies won the game 4-1. Ava Snelson singled in Heights’ first run in the bottom of the first inning, bringing in Heather Crays. The Golden Eagles tied the game in the top of the second, with Brooklyn Fritsche scoring on an error.

The Huskies scored their go-ahead run in the third inning. Taya Trosper hit a one-out double, then got home on McKenzie Jackson’s left field hit. Jackson hit a double in the fifth inning to score Snelson, then batted in another run in the sixth inning with a left field single to bring in Melanee Forrester.

Snelson was 3-for-3 at the plate, with Crays and Jackson both getting two hits. Kenley Scott also hit a double. Crays pitched a complete game, striking out six. Fritsche and Kate Brady both had two hits for GC; Ava Augustinovicz also pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

Heights fell to the host Cougars 3-1 in its second game. Kamryn Rhoton hit a home run in the sixth inning. Crays had two hits.

Guerin Catholic dropped its second game 9-8 against Seymour. The Owls led 7-0 through four innings before the Golden Eagles scored six runs in the top of the fifth.

Brady singled in Jillian Davis for the first run, then Madi Cain doubled in Brady and Natalie Eiler. Cain scored on Anna Mauch’s RBI groundout, Fritsche doubled Lucy Kemp home, then scored when Augustinovicz reached on an error.

Seymour scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 8-6. Fritsche tied the game in the top of the seventh, smacking a triple to score Mauch then getting home on an error. But the Owls won in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

Brady, Kemp and Fritsche all had two hits, including a double for Kemp.

The Huskies are 11-10 and play at Alexandria on Tuesday and at Frankfort on Wednesday. Guerin Catholic is 7-11 and hosts North Central on Thursday.
