Softball: HSE’s Ransom throws perfect game over Richmond, Westfield takes down Heights

A perfect game by Ashley Ransom highlighted a big win for the Hamilton Southeastern softball team on Wednesday.

The Royals beat Richmond 25-0 in a five-inning away game. Ransom started the game by striking out the side in the first inning, and would do that again in the third inning. She totaled 10 strikeouts, and allowed no hits and no walks.

Southeastern had 21 hits, including a 4-for-4 night from Addy Justice, who drove in five runs. Sayla Stock hit a solo home run, totaling three runs scored and two hits. Alex Kiemeyer counted two doubles in her 3-for-3 night, totaling four RBIs. Payton Fox hit a triple, while Makenna Selm, Ella Lyons, Madi Yankauskas and Megan Wincek all hit one double.

Lyons, Stock, Selm and Wincek all had two hits. Selm scored four runs, Tessa Sexauer had three runs, while Lyons, Alex Kiemeyer, Steph Penny, Yankauskas, Wincek and Ava Kiemeyer all scored two runs.

The Royals are 15-6 and play Saturday at Fort Wayne Carroll.

Westfield won an all-county game at Hamilton Heights Wednesday, 15-5 in five innings.

The Shamrocks got on the board early, when Allie Dolenc hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Westfield followed that up with seven runs in the second inning, and three more in both the third and fourth innings.

Sofia Easterhaus was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double. Easterhaus scored three runs and batted in two more. Ava Kainrath, Annika Lawrence, Dolenc and Kenzie Hiatt all had two hits, with Kainrath hitting a double. Grace Fanelli also hit a double.

Hiatt drove in three runs, with Easterhaus and Marisa Stormer both batting in two. Grace Feltz scored three runs, with Lawrence and Dolenc both scoring two. Shea Vohs got the pitching win.

Hailey Hall and Melanee Forrester both had two hits for the Huskies, while Lily Roush and Savannah Warwick both hit a double. Hall scored two runs.

Westfield is 11-11 and plays Friday at Southmont. Heights is 14-7 and hosts Lafayette Central Catholic Friday in the Hoosier Conference third-place game.

Sheridan dropped a back-and-forth Hoosier Heartland Conference game to Delphi 8-5 on Wednesday.

The Oracles scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Blackhawks took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Maelei Casler singled in Ashlynn Tryon for the first run, then Mariana Lopez smacked a center field hit to bring in Jacquellynne Bates and Casler.

Delphi tied the game in the fourth inning, then scored two runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. Sheridan tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Lopez blasted a triple to bring in Bates and Claire Purciful. But the Oracles scored two in the sixth inning and held the lead from there.

Bates was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Casler and Lopez both had two hits.

The Blackhawks are 2-18 and host Fountain Central this afternoon.

Fishers lost a home game to New Palestine 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Tigers were led by Azstryd Alexander, who was 3-for-3, including a double. Jenna Grubb had two hits.

Fishers is 12-7 and plays a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Tuesday at Brownsburg.

Noblesville fell to defending Class 4A state champion Roncalli 10-0 Wednesday in five innings at the Royals’ field.

The Millers were held to two hits by Roncalli pitcher Keagan Rothrock. Both Gabby Fowler and Bella Schatko had one hit for Noblesville.

The Millers are 10-11-1 and play a doubleheader Saturday at Leo.
