Softball: Heights plays Bishop Chatard today for sectional championship

The Hamilton Heights softball team advanced to the championship game of Class 3A Sectional 27 at Bishop Chatard by beating Brebeuf Jesuit 9-1 in a Wednesday semifinal game.

The Huskies got going right away with three runs in the first inning. Lily Roush scored the first run when Isabel Morrow reached on error, then Kassidy Schakel batted in Kaylee Rhoton and Morrow with a left field line drive.

Taya Trosper scored a second-inning run on Hailey Hall’s RBI groundout. Trosper got on base with a left field hit, then moved to third base on a double from Lily Cash. In the fourth inning, Cash batted in a run, as her RBI ground out brought in Morgan Ottinger, who led off the inning with a double.

It was Roush’s turn to hit a leadoff double in the fifth inning, and she eventually scored on Melanee Forrester’s left field hit. Ottinger then brought in Schakel with a right field hit, and Forrester got home on Trosper’s RBI fielder’s choice. Heights scored one more run in the sixth inning when Hall ran home on a passed ball.

Roush, Schakel and Ottinger all had two hits. Morrow hit a double in the sixth inning. Roush got the pitching win, striking out 14 in six innings.

The Huskies are 18-8 and play host Bishop Chatard at 5 p.m. today for the Sectional 27 championship.
