Softball: Guerin Catholic softball ends regular season by beating Bishop Chatard

The Guerin Catholic softball team beat Bishop Chatard last Saturday to take fifth place at the Circle City Conference Tournament.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Brooklyn Fritsche’s center field hit brought in Lauren Brady and Anna Mauch, then Natalie Eiler scored Lucy Kemp with a center field hit.

The Trojans got two runs back in the bottom of the first, but Guerin Catholic surged ahead with four runs in the top of the second. Mauch doubled Kate Brady home, then Kemp blasted a three-run home run into left field, also scoring Lauren Brady and Mauch. That gave GC a 7-2 lead.

Chatard scored a run in the bottom of the second before the Golden Eagles put up two more runs in the top of the third. Harleigh Abbott got home on Lauren Brady’s RBI groundout, then Kate Brady scored when Mauch hit a sacrifice fly.

Kate Brady singled in Lilli Everts for a seventh inning run to give Guerin Catholic a 10-5 lead. The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Eagles held on for the win.

Mauch was 3-for-5 at the plate. Kate Brady, Lauren Brady, Kemp and Everts all had two hits. Rilee Kluesner pitched a complete game, striking out four.

Guerin Catholic finished the regular season 2-14 and plays Wednesday in the semifinals of Class 3A Sectional 27 at Bishop Chatard. The Golden Eagles take on the winner of Monday’s game between the Trojans and Shortridge.
