The Guerin Catholic softball team steamrolled its way to a first-ever semi-state championship Saturday at Twin Lakes.
The Class 3A No. 2-ranked Golden Eagles shut out No. 7-ranked Bishop Dwenger 12-0 in the semi-finals and Kankakee Valley 7-0 in the championship game. As a result, Guerin Catholic will make its first-ever appearance in the state finals next weekend.
The Golden Eagles led Bishop Dwenger 7-0 after five innings, then poured in five runs in the top of the seventh. Sarah Dilley was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double, and batted in four runs. Aliyah Dorsey and Izzy Kemp also had three hits, including a double.
Kemp put together another perfect game, striking out 20 while allowing no runners on base.
In the championship game, Guerin scored two runs in the first inning. Victoria Flores singled in Ana Macha, then later scored on Lucy Schenk’s RBI groundout.
Flores again singled home Macha in the second inning, then Dorsey scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-0. Flores then smacked a three-run home run in the fourth inning, also sending Macha and Dorsey home.
Flores and Macha were both 3-for-4 in the championship. Meanwhile, Alicia Flores dominated in the circle, throwing 21 strikeouts against one hit and no walks.
The Golden Eagles are 25-2 for the season. They will play No. 10-ranked Boonville in the 3A state championship game at 8 p.m. Friday at Center Grove.

Noblesville saw its season come to an end at the Class 4A Harrison semi-state on Saturday, as the Millers fell to No. 3-ranked Lake Central 8-1 in the championship game.
Noblesville started its day with a 10-0, six-inning semi-final win over Penn. The Millers scored four runs in the second inning, two more in the fifth, then ended the game with four runs in the sixth. Gabby Fowler doubled in two runs to clinch to get the ninth and 10th runs home.
Abby Harvey was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Lauren DeRolf also had three hits. Cameron Grayson got the pitching win.
Lake Central went up 4-0 in the third inning in the final game, then added two runs in the fifth and sixth. Noblesville scored its run in the bottom of the sixth: Harvey tripled to get on base and was sent home by Ella White’s sacrifice fly.
Harvey and Fowler both hit 2-for-3. Grayson struck out five in a complete-game effort for the Millers, who finished their season 26-6.
