Softball: Another perfect game for Guerin Catholic

Perfection is becoming a habit for the Guerin Catholic softball team.
The Golden Eagles, now ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, swept past Heritage Christian 10-0 in a six-inning Circle City Conference game on Thursday. Leading the way was Alicia Flores, who pitched a perfect game – the third this season for Guerin Catholic.
Flores tossed 14 strikeouts in the game. That included striking out the side in both the second and third innings. After making a groundout play for the sixth inning’s first out, Flores threw strikeouts to get the next two.
As for the GC offense, the Golden Eagles scored two runs in each of the first three innings. Ana Macha stole home for Guerin’s first run; she stole six bases in the game. Alicia Flores then doubled in Victoria Flores for the second run.
Kirsten Mascari scored a run in the second inning when Macha reached on error; Macha would later score on another error. In the third inning, Alicia Flores tripled in Victoria Flores and Izzy Kemp to make the score 6-0.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up the scoring with four runs in the sixth inning. Victoria Flores doubled home Macha and Aliyah Dorsey, then Victoria Flores and Kemp scored after Alicia Flores reached on error.
Macha and Alicia Flores both had two hits for the game.
Guerin Catholic is 3-0 in conference play and 6-0 overall. The Golden Eagles host Westfield this afternoon.

Carmel overwhelmed North Central 18-1 in a five-inning Metropolitan Conference game on Thursday at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds scored in every inning, starting with six runs in the bottom of the first. Sophie Esposito singled in the first run, then Caroline Roop hit a two-RBI single. Hope McDonald scored Roop with a double, then was sent home by Ella Greenawald’s base hit. Lily Sullivan doubled in Greenawald.
Carmel pounded out 28 hits, with Sophie Esposito and Ella Greenawald both going 4-for-4 at the plate. Ella Ohrvall, Kylie Cunningham, Megan Nichols, Hope McDonald and Lily Sullivan all had three hits.
Esposito and Roop both totaled three RBIs. Nichols and McDonald each scored three runs. Maddie Stacy pitched all five innings, striking out six.
The Greyhounds are 2-1 in the MIC and 4-5 overall. Carmel hosts Franklin Central tonight.

Hamilton Southeastern fell to Avon 13-1 in a Thursday Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at the Royals’ field.
Southeastern scored its run in the sixth inning. Mia Reinhard reached on error, and was later sent home by a triple from Ella Lewis.
The Royals are 1-2 in the conference and 3-7 overall. Southeastern plays this afternoon at Lawrence North.

Sheridan dropped a 9-4 game to Tipton on Thursday.
Taylor Bates led the Blackhawks by going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a home run in the fourth inning. Bates totaled two RBIs. Katy Crail hit two doubles in a 2-for-4 night. Freshman Maelei Casler made her first varsity start as pitcher, she had two strikeouts against one walk, five hits and five runs.
Sheridan is 0-2 and hosts Westfield on Monday.
