Social media post prompts Westfield to issue statement

Westfield Washington School officials on Wednesday released a statement to parents throughout the district regarding a social media post.

The statement read, “Some of you may have heard from your students that there was a concerning message posted regarding Westfield High School. School administrators and local police authorities are aware of this post, and information contained in this post is inaccurate and not factual. We will continue to be diligent in investigating any and all safety situations. Thank you for your concern.”

Kate Snedeker, a spokesperson for Westfield Washington Schools, told The Reporter, “I know that everyone is on high alert right now but the message was investigated and deemed inaccurate.”

When asked what information contained in the post prompted an investigation by school officials and police, Snedeker replied, “Because the information was inaccurate, I don’t feel like the school district should not be commenting beyond the above statement. Again, we investigated, it included inaccurate information, and we notified parents of that.”

Westfield Police Department did not respond to The Reporter’s request for comment.
