Soccer: Trailblazers get back-to-back wins

The University boys soccer team got two big wins to start the week.

On Monday, the Class 1A No. 3 Trailblazers cruised past Indianapolis Lutheran 8-0. Sam Ricketts scored three goals and dished out two assists, while five more University players put in one goal each: Remy Lance, Cole Jacob, Tayuto Yasuda, Steven Scott and Chris Millen. Lance handed out four assists and Jake Malinzak had two.

The ‘Blazers followed that up with a 4-0 win Tuesday at Bethesda Christian. Padric Hatton, Constantine Stefanidis, Millen and Corbin Smith each scored on goal, with assists from Hatton, Millen and Yasuda.

University hosts Seton Catholic on Thursday.

Carmel’s boys team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, winning at Greenfield-Central 3-0.

Josiah Shepson netted two goals for the 3A No. 9 Greyhounds, with Hayden Warneke scoring on. Will Latham, Colin Fettig and Drew Thomson each had one assist. Adam Keleher got the goalkeeper shutout.

“Our movement off the ball and ball movement was fantastic tonight,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “Defensive, we communicated and organized well.”

The ‘Hounds host 3A No. 14 Center Grove on Thursday.

The Noblesville boys team got a Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory Tuesday, winning 4-0 at Avon.

The game was scoreless at halftime, with goalkeeper Cole Thompson making big saves to keep the Orioles off the board. But the 3A No. 4 Millers got going in the second half. Noah Bernot made a free kick that Luke Odle headed into the net for Noblesville’s first goal. One minute later, Sam Divis and AJ Tippner forced Avon into an own goal.

Divis then put in the Millers’ third goal of the game. Odle completed the scoring in the 78th minute with a goal delivered by Noah Adams’ corner kick.

Noblesville hosts 2A No. 1 Brebeuf Jesuit Thursday in its annual Pink Out game to support the Megan S. Ott Foundation.

Westfield’s girls team played to a 1-1 tie at New Palestine on Monday.

Lola Horstman scored the 3A No. 20 Shamrocks’ goal. Westfield hosts Franklin Central tonight in an HCC game.

The Hamilton Southeastern boys team played to a 3-3 tie Tuesday at Brownsburg in an HCC game.

The 3A No. 4 Royals led 1-0 at halftime; Rex Randy scored the goal with Oscar Tittle providing the assist. The Bulldogs tied the game, but James Wells earned a penalty kick, with Tittle put in the net to give Southeastern a 2-1 lead.

Brownsburg stormed back to take a 3-2 lead. But the Royals had the last word, as Logan Puls deflected a clearance ball into the back of the net, giving Southeastern the draw.

The Royals return home on Thursday to host Pendleton Heights.
