NHS bests Greyhounds at Hallmark Orthodontics Complex
In a re-match of last year’s Class 3A boys soccer state championship game, Noblesville beat Carmel 1-0 Thursday at the Millers’ Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, defending state champion Noblesville scored its goal in the 70th minute. A.J. Tippner tapped in the goal unassisted, and the Millers were able to hang on from there.
“When he got there, he realized, ‘Oh, I can put this away,” said Jake Hart, Noblesville acting head coach. “He took advantage of the opportunity and did what he was supposed to do. That’s all him. That’s just drive.”
Millers goalkeeper Noel Peña made multiple saves in the game, while defenders Luke Odle and Owen Mejia helped him out in preserving the shutout.
“I think they played really well,” said Hart. “This year we obviously graduated a large number last year, but we have a large number of seniors again this year. Although we are a very different team as far as the individual players, we still have a lot talent in the program.”
Noblesville is 2-0 for the season, while Carmel is 0-1-2.
“It was an unfortunate result after playing a solid game,” said Greyhounds coach Shane Schmidt. “Our energy and work rate was fantastic. The most important. The most important takeaway from tonight’s result, is we improved again.”
Both teams are back in action Saturday. The Millers host Plainfield, and the Greyhounds host Hamilton Southeastern.
