Soccer: Three girls teams compete at Zionsville Invite

Three Hamilton County girls soccer teams played at the Zionsville Invitational over the weekend.
Noblesville, the No. 2-ranked team in Class 3A, won both of its games. On Friday night, the Millers beat Sylvania Northview (Ohio) 2-0. Meskerem James scored Noblesville’s first goal (and her first-ever varsity goal) off an assist from Jenna Chatterton. Brooke Hines scored the Millers’ second goal.
On Saturday, Noblesville scored another 2-0 victory, this one over Notre Dame Academy (Ky.) Isabella Griffey got a first-half goal off a Chatterton assist. In the second half, Chatterton converted a penalty kick. The Millers are 5-0-1 and play at Westfield on Wednesday.
Carmel, rated No. 4 in 3A, won its Friday night game, then played to a Saturday tie.
The Greyhounds won their first game over Notre Dame Academy (Ohio) 3-1. All of the goals were scored in the second half: Carmel’s Susie Soderstrom got the first goal off a Kelsie James assist, then Brooke Bailey scored from Emma Antoine’s assist. James scored the third goal unassisted.
On Saturday, the ‘Hounds played to a 0-0 tie with Highlands, last year’s Kentucky state runner-up. Goalkeeper Erin Baker led the defense for Carmel, which is 5-0-2 and plays at Lawrence North on Tuesday.
Hamilton Southeastern, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, split its two games. On Friday night, the Royals defeated 3A No. 9 Penn 2-0. Ashlyn Freeman scored a first-half goal, off a pass from Ashley Wilson, who received a pass from Olivia Smith. Izzie Wallace then put the ball in the net with 27 minutes left to go in the second half.
On Saturday, the Royals fell to Greenwood, the No. 2-ranked team in Kentucky, 2-1. It was Southeastern’s first loss of the year. Greenwood went up 2-0 at halftime; Layla Brown got the Royals on the board with a second-half goal.
The Royals are 7-1 and play at Fishers Wednesday in the Mudsock game.

University took care of Bethesda Christian 3-0 in a Friday afternoon game.
Whitney Freeman scored all three of the 1A No. 9 Trailblazers’ goals. Tessa Hudson held the midfield, while Lilly Fair got another shutout.
“The whole team played a strong game and look forward to three games next week,” said UHS coach Chris Morrison.

Hamilton Heights cruised past Warren Central 10-1 in a convincing Saturday win.
The Huskies scored just four minutes into the game, when Emily Stirn put an Emma Hall corner kick into the net. After that, it was all Huskies.
Hall scored two goals and totaled three assists. Cassidy Felger added three goals, also making one assist. Caitlin Hartwich converted a penalty kick and Katelyn Champion also scored a goal. Stirn and Keri Townsend both had assists. Goalkeeper Tessa Harr made eight saves.
Heights is 3-1-3 and hosts Kokomo on Thursday.

BOYS GAMES
Noblesville sailed past Northwestern 4-0 in a Saturday morning game at the White River Elementary School field.
The 3A No. 9 Millers scored their first goal five minutes into the first half, when Jack Miller sent a volley goal in from the top of the penalty area. Noblesville was held to that 1-0 lead until the 67th minute, when Spencer Holland slotted a low ball to the far post.
Holland would later get fouled in the box, and Miller made the resultant penalty kick. Noblesville’s fourth goal came with five minutes left, when Holland sent a slip pass to Drew Barnes, who sent the ball towards the goal, and got it into the net after being deflected by a few defenders.
The Millers will be back at WRE on Tuesday to host Westfield for the Pink Out games, which will support the Megan S. Ott Foundation.

Fishers won a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Saturday at Franklin Central, 3-1.
All of the goals were scored in the first half. Max Severs, Noah Reinhart and Zayd Almaya each got a goal for the 3A No. 19 Tigers, while Yuto Nakamae, Brendan Weiger and Jack Kenny each had one assist.

Guerin Catholic dominated its Circle City Conference game with Bishop Chatard on Saturday, winning 6-0 and staying perfect in league play.
Michael Crandley scored two goals for the 2A No. 4 Golden Eagles. Tommy Hartman, Daniel Cloran, Ethan Cabotage and Bryce Dolenc all had one goal. Aidan Perhacs got the shutout in goal.
Guerin Catholic plays another CCC game Tuesday against Roncalli.
