Soccer: NHS girls beat Cathedral

The Noblesville girls soccer team wasted no time in its season opener Monday.
The Class 3A No. 3 Millers got on the board during the second minute of the game, and that carried them to a 2-0 win over Cathedral at the Lawrence Soccer Complex. The Irish are the top-ranked team in Class 2A.
Sydney Anderson got Noblesville’s first goal, and that would be the only score for most of the game. With less than four minutes left in the second half, Elana Chatterton took the rebound of a shot by Jenna Chatterton and put it into the net. It was Elana Chatterton’s first varsity goal.
The Millers will play their home opener Saturday against 2A No. 10 West Lafayette.

The Westfield girls team opened its season by beating Lawrence North 4-0 on Monday.
Amiah Sprunger scored two goals for the Shamrocks, with Chloe Ipsen scoring one goal. The Wildcats had an own goal. Westfield had assists from Ipsen, Carissa Burdick and Madison Niehaus.
The ‘Rocks will host 3A No. 13 Fishers at 5:30 p.m. today.

The University boys team, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, tied with 1A No. 2 Heritage Christian 0-0 on Monday.
In 95-degree heat, the Trailblazers back line of Noah Arnett, Jacob Masoncup, Quentin Berry and Remy Lance neutralized a potent Heritage offense while Jacob Sager came up with a big save in the first half to keep Heritage goalless for the match.

The Carmel boys junior varsity team tied Zionsville 0-0 on Saturday.
Class 3A No. 7 Carmel’s varsity game with the 3A No. 1 Eagles was canceled due to rainy weather.
