Soccer: HSE boys pick up HCC victory over Flashes

The Hamilton Southeastern boys soccer team got a Saturday morning Hoosier Crossroads Conference win at Franklin Central, by the score of 3-1.
The Class 3A No. 4 Royals scored two goals in the first half. Sam Kay converted a penalty kick for the first goal, then Kuljit Mann put a header into the net off an assist by Aniket Sunderesh. The Flashes scored a couple minutes into the second half, but got no closer. Isa Sayeed put in Southeastern’s third goal, from a free kick by Tyler Pulliam.

University won a Pioneer Conference game over Muncie Burris 2-0 on Saturday.
Quentin Berry and Ethan Patel each got one goal for the 1A No. 1 Trailblazers. Noah Arnett and Jacob Masoncup anchored the UHS defense, which allowed the Owls only two shots on goal.

Sheridan won its first game of the season on Saturday, beating Blackford 3-2.
Kyle Eden scored the winning goal for the Blackhawks, who are 1-1-1 for the season.

Guerin Catholic took care of 2A No. 9 Brebeuf Jesuit 5-0 in a Saturday Circle City Conference game.
Daniel Cloran, Tommy Hartman and Ethan Thornburg all scored goals for the 2A No. 3 Golden Eagles. Aidan Perhacs recorded the shutout.

GIRLS GAMES
The Carmel girls team hosted its own invitational on Satuday.
The 3A No. 2 Greyhounds played 2A No. 1 Cathedral, winning 2-1. The Irish scored on a penalty kick just 16 seconds into the game. Carmel came back four minutes later when Cassidy Eckstein scored off a Susie Soderstrom assist. Naomi Mann got the winning goal in the 17th minute, assisted by Morgan Parker and Soderstrom.
Fishers also played a morning game, beating Bishop Dwenger 1-0. Taryn McFarland scored the Tigers’ goal.
Carmel and Fishers played each other in the evening, with the game finishing in a 0-0 tie.

Hamilton Heights came back to finish its game with Yorktown in a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, Emily Stirn found Cassidy Felger in a crowd at the top of the goal box; Felger slipped past defenders and put the ball in the net. Jenna Peterson scored the second goal, also getting past a defender and slipping the ball past the keeper.
“We have found ourselves playing from behind in three straight games but this team is mentally tough,” said Heights coach Travis Kauffman. “They won’t quit on each other and they won’t quit believing they can score and come back. I’m proud of our defense for shutting down Yorktown’s skilled and athletic attack. It’s a resilient group.”
Heights is 1-1-2 and hosts Northwestern on Tuesday.
The Huskies won the junior varsity game 3-0. Markaela Pugh scored two goals and Katelyn Champion scored one.

Guerin Catholic improved to 2-0 in Circle City Conference play with a 2-1 win over Brebeuf Jesuit on Saturday.
Hailey Abel got the Golden Eagles on the board just before halftime. The Braves tied the game with 28:51 left, but Emersen Jennings scored the game winner with 13:10 remaining.
