Despite the incessant rain and lightning delays (which canceled numerous other events on Saturday), the Carmel Girls Soccer Invitational was able to see some games get played on Saturday.
The Class 3A No. 1 Greyhounds won their first game, beating 2A No. 2 Cathedral 1-0 in a contest that was called at halftime due to lightning. Ashley Witucki scored Carmel’s goal, with Olivia Fray making the assist. Greyhounds goalkeeper Erin Baker had one save.
In the second game, Carmel lost to 3A No. 17 Fishers 1-0. Ellen Stump scored for the Tigers in the 30th minute. Jordan Imess had four saves for Fishers, with Kaitly Hicks getting three. Baker one had save for the ‘Hounds.
“First of all, I need to thank all the workers, trainers, administrators, fellow coaches, players and fans who made the best of a terrible weather day,” said Carmel coach Frank Dixon. “Somehow, we got many of the JV and varsity games completed.”
Fishers is now 4-0 for the season, while Carmel is 2-1-1.
Guerin Catholic played a boy-girl doubleheader at Brebeuf Jesuit on Saturday.
The 3A No. 15 Golden Eagles girls finished regulation and overtime tied 1-1, so the game went to penalty kicks, where 3A No. 14 Brebeuf won 5-4. Sarah Stagge scored the goal for Guerin.
The 3A No. 18 Golden Eagles boys fell to the Braves 3-0.
