The school year is off to a great start at Sheridan Community Schools. Students’ first day was Tuesday, Aug. 9.
Superintendent Dr. Dave Mundy commented that it was one of the smoothest starts to a school year he has experienced. The tone with staff and administration is very enthusiastic, with a renewed sense of normalcy at all buildings.
At Sheridan Elementary, new principal Valerie Roberts said the first day was special for all students, and especially for kindergartners who had the “red carpet” rolled out for them. Parents appreciated being able to walk their children to class for the first time after two years of COVID limitations. The elementary is looking forward to bringing back family game nights, as well as various PTO events. In addition, the robotics team and other elementary clubs will come back after a long two-year hiatus.
Sheridan Middle School Principal Kent Davis and his staff have a goal for every student to be excited every day to come to school. Grades 6, 7, and 8 are a time of a lot of changes for students, so the small school atmosphere at SMS helps students take advantage of the creative learning opportunities offered by teachers.
It is a year of growth and change at Sheridan High School with many new teachers, as well as many new programs on the horizon. SHS will expand its Career Technical Education (CTE) offerings, thanks in part to being part of two winning grant proposals. The two grants will bring in several hundred thousand dollars that will go directly towards expansion and new programming in career pathways including education, advanced manufacturing, and natural resources.
Overall enrollment is up 20 students and continued growth is expected in Sheridan, according to Superintendent Mundy.
“I am excited to be back at Sheridan and start the school year,” Mundy said. “I am looking forward to hosting community meetings to continually share the great things happening here.”
