Hamilton County’s Drug Treatment Court graduated six participants during a special ceremony in the Historic Courthouse courtroom last Thursday, Aug. 7. The program offers a treatment-focused alternative for nonviolent offenders struggling with substance use disorder.

“Drug Court saved my life,” new graduate Blake Bolden said. After years of substance abuse and multiple DUI arrests, the Cicero native says he can see clearly now. “At first, I resisted. I was angry and resentful. But I knew something had to change, and this program gave me the structure, support, and accountability to finally turn things around.”

Bolden, a Hamilton Heights graduate, has been sober since Sept. 12, 2023. He lost his father to alcoholism – a devastating loss that fueled his own struggle with addiction.

“I’ve done some bad things, but I’m not a bad person,” Bolden added. “I know my dad would be proud of me today. I’m proud of myself, too – and I’ve made my family proud. To anyone out there struggling: there’s hope. It’s not easy and there’s no magic fix, but life is so much better on the other side.”

Participants in the Drug Treatment Court commit to intensive supervision, substance use treatment, random drug testing, home visits, and education or employment requirements. The program typically takes 15 to 24 months to complete. Superior Court Judge David Najjar oversees the program.

“Blake came into this program full of resistance, but over time he committed himself to the hard work of recovery,” Najjar said. “He never gave up on himself, and that’s exactly what this program is about: restoring lives and helping people become the best version of themselves.”

Very proud of Blake and his mother and employees boss Greg Filson and all 6 people that graduated. You people probably sweat more blood in 2 yrs than those people that graduated college with 4 yrs and a degree. GOD BLESS.
