The Silvernotes’ performance of the song, “Stand by Me (with Lean on Me)” earned them an invitation to appear on stage. They were chosen as one of three choruses who will be spotlighted at the Melody Makers of Indiana Association (MMIA) performance at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 in the Family Arts Building during the Indiana State Fair. MMIA has more than 350 members in 22 Indiana counties.
The Silvernotes were selected at the recent MMIA Festival Day held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, where each of its 22 county choruses performed a song of its own choosing for critique by Dr. Scott Buchanan, Director of Choral Music at ISU, Terre Haute and by Dr. Kristofer Sanchack, Director of Choral Activities, Alabama State University. Dr. Buchanan and Dr. Sanchack are the State Director and State Accompanist for MMIA.
The Silvernotes have 30 members from Carmel, Westfield, Cicero, Fishers and Noblesville, ranging from age 14 to mid-80s. They perform year-round for clubs, community events, special events, nursing homes and retirement villages. Diana Stanton of Fishers is the director of Silvernotes and Emily Brock of Fishers is the accompanist.
The group practices weekly from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on most Monday evenings at the OV Winks building on the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The group is on singing hiatus until August. They can, however, be found selling Elephant Ears at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair July 19-23. To request info on joining or scheduling a performance, please email pkwms66@comcast.net.
