Sheridan wrestler Ryker Ream had a record-setting day last Saturday when the Blackhawks boys team competed in the Tipton Invitational.
Ream was one of two Sheridan champions at the event, going undefeated with a 5-0 record at 190 pounds. During the tournament, Ream set a new record for takedowns in a season; he finished the tournament with 69 takedowns, easily surpassing the old record of 65.
“This means a lot, the record was 30 plus years old, and to come from not even wrestling varsity my freshman year to breaking a record and planning to wrestle in college, it really means a lot,” said Ream.
Alex Cravens also finished the day as champion, as he was perfect at 157 pounds with a 5-0 mark. Three other wrestlers went 4-1: Camdyn Vespa at 106, Caleb Alexander at 132 and Eli Smith at 150.
Another four Sheridan wrestlers were 3-2 for the day. They were Ethan Harbaugh (at 126), Asher Barrick (at 138), Brady Hammack (at 175) and Doug Earley (at 215).
The Blackhawks finished 3-2 as a team. Sheridan beat Northwestern 64-18, Indianapolis Lutheran 52-21 and Pendleton Heights 60-18. The Blackhawks’ two losses were to Tipton 50-26 and Noblesville 71-12.
On Tuesday, Sheridan dropped a dual meet at Lebanon 61-15. Harbaugh (at 126) and Ream (at 190) both won by pin, while Alex Cravens got a decision victory.
