The Sheridan girls wrestling team kicked off the inaugural IHSAA wrestling season with a strong showing at the Alexandria Monroe High School tournament last Saturday.
The Blackhawks were led by Aubrey Koch, who finished first 110 pounds. Koch won the championship match by pinning her opponent with seconds left in the second period.
Devyn Pewarski and Eva Todd both finished 3-1 in their weight classes, while Anna Hamersly went 2-2 to place third in her division. Maddison Underwood, Gracie Stowers and Ryleigh Hampton all earned fourth-place finishes.
“Every single one of our wrestlers showed guts, wrestled unintimidated and has something to smile about walking away from this tournament.” Said Blackhawks assistant coach Colin Warner.
“We competed with 24 other teams today and got a lot of compliments on how well our girls wrestled,” said Sheridan head coach Jason Hamersly.
