Make-A-Wish grants life-long dream . . .

A Sheridan teenager learned that his wish to attend Purdue University will be coming true as Make-A-Wish® Ohio Kentucky & Indiana and Purdue University surprised him with the first admissions offer for the class of 2022, as well as tuition assistance, on Wednesday.

Stephen Quillen, 18, Sheridan, has a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It has been his lifelong dream to attend Purdue University as his family has a long tradition of being Boilermakers. His father is a Purdue alum, his mother attended the university, and his grandmother, aunt and uncle are all graduates of the Purdue College of Pharmacy. While Stephen has undergone treatments for his heart condition, he also has realized his interest in pharmacy as it helps him understand what is going on with his body. As a result, he dreams of attending pharmacy school so he can go on to help others facing medical conditions, and his heartfelt wish was to have tuition assistance to make this dream come true.

During the wish reveal, Stephen was surprised with early admission to Purdue and a check for tuition assistance from Make-A-Wish.

“Each year, the Purdue Office of Admissions evaluates nearly 50,000 applications and among all of these, Stephen’s stood out,” said Kris Wong Davis, Purdue vice provost for enrollment management. “Through his application, we recognized him to be an exceptional young man who is using his personal challenges to learn, grow and contribute to his community and society as a whole. He is exactly the kind of student who excels at Purdue and we are thrilled for him to receive our first offer of admission to the Class of 2022.”
