At 10 a.m. this Friday, May 31, the Sheridan Town Council will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to construct the final segment of the Monon Trail in Hamilton County. Once completed, trail users will have trail connectivity from northwest Hamilton County to downtown Indianapolis.
“The first segment of the trail opened in 1993 in Carmel, Indiana, and we are pleased to be finishing what others started,” Town Council President Silas DeVaney III said.
The final segment of the trail, extending north of State Road 47 to the Hamilton-Boone county line, is a testament to the community’s dedication and vision.
“Funded in large part by a $2 million grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Next Level Grant Program, this project is a collaborative effort that will bring the Monon into our downtown, where trail users will find our richly unique Main Street lined with storefronts that are seeing new life,” DeVaney said. “We are confident the completed trail will add to the quality of life for our residents as well as invite people to Sheridan that might not otherwise have a reason to visit our small town.”
The groundbreaking will occur on the north side of State Road 47 and the current terminus of the Monon Trail. The approximate address is 405 E. Tenth St., Sheridan.
