This Wednesday, Jan. 18, Sheridan High School (SHS) will play host to an event focused on graduation and career options. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Students in grades 9 through 12, along with their parents, will learn about requirements for graduation and what opportunities are available both before and after graduation. Topics will include graduation requirements, Ivy Tech degree paths, certifications, licenses, apprenticeships, internships, the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Program, the Pursuit Institute, and more.
Speakers will include SHS Principal Rick Davis, School Counselor Jessi Canton, JAG Specialist Abbi Ward, Internship Coordinator Abby Williams, Ivy Tech College Connection Coach Emily Wenzel, and College and Career Consultant Dan Clark.
“A lot has changed in recent years relative to high school graduation requirements, as well as opportunities we can offer students,” Davis said. “We want to do all we can to keep students on track for graduation, and most importantly, we want them to be prepared for their life after high school.”
Participants will learn about many of the exciting opportunities for them at SHS, including JAG, opportunities through the Pursuit Institute, internships, certifications, apprenticeships, career assessments, and much more.
“We are really excited about the many opportunities that we are able to offer students,” Superintendent Dave Mundy said. “We also understand that it can feel overwhelming for students and parents, which is why events like this are so important. We are hoping for a great turn out.”
Mundy added his appreciation to the high school team for putting the event together. All grade 9 through 12 students at Sheridan, as well as their parents, are encouraged to attend.
