Sheridan stomps Gophers, ends their unbeaten record

Sheridan cruised to another Hoosier Heartland Conference victory on Friday, overwhelming previously unbeaten Clinton Prairie 42-0 at the Gophers’ field.

The Blackhawks got stronger as the game went on. Sheridan scored one touchdown in the opening quarter, on a six-yard run by Zach Bales. In the second quarter, Peyton Cross made two huge touchdown plays for the ‘Hawks, first catching a 50-yard scoring pass from Caleb Alexander, then rushing 67-yard for another touchdown. Sheridan led 19-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Blackhawks tacked on three more touchdowns. Jacob Jones made two big scoring runs, from 31 and 40 yards. In between, Cross jogged in a three-yard touchdown, his third of the night.

“We started out a little slow, but then we picked it up in the second half, started playing better,” said Sheridan coach Bud Wright. The coach said he thought his team’s defense “played pretty good all night long.”

Cross led the rushing with 236 yards, followed by Jones with 79 yards.

The Blackhawks improved to 4-0 in conference play and 4-1 overall. Sheridan continues HHC action next Friday by hosting Taylor.
