Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) invites all members of the community to attend a Community Safety Night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in the High School/Middle School Auditorium.

This open forum event will provide a chance for parents, students, and community members to learn more about the school district’s safety protocols and the collaborative efforts with local authorities to keep students safe.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from several key figures involved in school safety, including:

  • Chief Mike Nielsen, the newly appointed Chief of the Sheridan Police Department
  • Sergeant John Perrine of the Indiana State Police
  • Dave Mundy, Superintendent of Sheridan Community Schools
  • Members of the Sheridan Police Department and the SCS Safety Team

The evening will cover important topics related to student safety and the processes the school district follows in partnership with local law enforcement. While the forum will allow for open questions from the community, the event will primarily focus on the following key areas:

  • The Threat Assessment Process: how the school safety team collaborates to evaluate and respond to potential threats.
  • Handling Various Threats: from internal concerns to social media incidents and threats from other communities, learn how SCS addresses and mitigates risks.
  • Safety Procedures: an overview of the district’s safety steps for different situations to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Online Safety: measures the school district takes to protect students in the digital space.
  • Collaboration with Local Authorities: a closer look at how SCS works with the Sheridan Police Department and Indiana State Police to manage safety situations effectively.

Superintendent Mundy encourages all interested community members to attend.

“Our partnership with law enforcement is vital to ensuring the safety of our students and staff,” he said. “This event is a great opportunity for the community to ask questions and learn more about the strategies and processes in place to keep our schools safe.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in an important conversation about school safety and learn how SCS is working to protect its students both on-campus and online.
