The online world can be very scary, and Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) wants to help parents keep their children safe.
SCS is partnering with the Indiana State Police to offer “Keeping Our Students Safe in an Online World” for parents at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. The event will take place at the Sheridan Elementary cafeteria and include dinner and childcare. The speaker will be Megan Banet from the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide (ICPYAS).

The presentation will include information for parents of children of all ages. Banet explained that she will share information about how parents can educate themselves on the apps their kids use, as well as the importance of supervising kids online, using safety/parental settings, and how to have ongoing conversations with their kids about online safety.
“We share some statistics and real-case examples, but we don’t focus on specific apps and platforms since that information tends to become dated quickly,” Banet said.
Superintendent Dr. Dave Mundy expressed his support for the program.

“This is a great opportunity for parents to educate themselves about the dangers and potential solutions,” Mundy said. “We want to partner with parents to do everything we can to keep our students safe.”
