Usually school hallways are deserted at 7 p.m., but Sheridan Middle School (SMS) and Sheridan High School (SHS) halls were bustling on Tuesday night.

SMS and SHS opened their doors to parents, bringing back the annual Back to School Night after a two-year break due to COVID. The evening began with a whole group session for parents in the auditorium where they were addressed by SHS Principal Rick Davis and SMS Principals Kent Davis. Parents then walked in the footsteps of their children as they followed their class schedules, albeit on a shortened schedule.

Parents were grateful for the opportunity to meet teachers and learn about the courses and plans for the year. Rick Davis described the evening as a key step in forming a positive and necessary parent-teacher relationships. Parents enjoyed cookies and drinks in the cafeteria during passing periods and study hall periods.

The principals estimated that about 30 to 40 percent of all parents attended the event.

“Annually, one of the most interesting things is the alumni parents returning to the building and re-connecting with other alumni and memories of their time at SCS,” Rick Davis said. “It was an enjoyable and rewarding evening which helps set the stage for a fantastic 2022-2023.”

Superintendent Dave Mundy attended the event and observed, “Our teachers did a wonderful job, and it was great to see so many parents going class to class with their students. We greatly appreciate the parent and community support, and this was just another step towards a terrific school year.”
