The Sheridan Historical Society’s Stephenson Cultural Center Museum is planning a two-day weekend open house event to celebrate its latest exhibit: the Bud Wright Sheridan Football display.
This coming Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Dec. 11 and 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day, the museum on Main Street will be open and the public is invited to stop by to see the new exhibit highlighting the coaching years of Coach Wright and his players. Coach Wright is the winningest football coach in Indiana history, and his teams have won a total of nine state championships. Don’t forget that Coach Wright is still coaching and may still add to his successes and records before his era is over.
This early Christmas present to the Sheridan community is only made possible by the generosity and arduous work of Society members, former and current Sheridan football players, and the friends and family of Coach Bud Wright. The hope is that community members and other interested individuals both near and far will take time over the weekend to stop by the museum and enjoy the Wright exhibit.
If sports are your thing, you will enjoy seeing the Coach Larry Hobbs era exhibit located right next to the football exhibit. For a variety of reasons, high school sports play an important part in Sheridan’s history. The Sheridan Historical Society is pleased to be able to honor this tradition in the new museum.
In addition to the museum’s contemporary football display, Santa Claus’s best elf will be there on Saturday to welcome girls and boys of all ages to the new museum. He will be taking Christmas gift orders and giving the youngsters coloring sheets and candy canes to take home. Punch and cookies will be available for all.
The museum is located at 315 S. Main St. in beautiful uptown Sheridan. For those of you not familiar with us, Sheridan is just on the country side of Hamilton County. Normal open hours for the museum are Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., but arrangements can be made to have the museum open for small groups at special hours. The museum also has space for small group meetings of up to 20 to 30 people and includes kitchen facilities for snack foods and catered meals. Please call the museum at (317) 758-5054 for further information.
Please plan to come to see the new football exhibit this weekend. The Society thinks you will be pleasantly surprised by what has been done to honor Coach Wright and his teams over the 50-year span of his career at Sheridan.
