That time is inching closer for horseshoe pitchers in Biddle Memorial Park in Sheridan, Indiana.
The Sheridan Horseshoe league will be starting up soon and celebrating one of the country’s oldest sports. From the moment you walk up to the courts, to the time you pitch your first shoe, you’ll get some unexpected feelings when that shoe clangs off that post. It was something to let loose and pass some time with the friends and family. Today, we use horseshoes of all different shapes and weight, but they all have something in common, the measurement. With every year the sport is coming to a close with a lot of things from America’s past time.
The Sheridan Horseshoe league uses a handicap system. This system allows players of all ages, and men and women to be on an even playing field. The league has people from those who have never pitched a shoe to those who have pitched longer than some of us have been alive.
This year, 2019, Sheridan will have three open league tournaments and O’Reilly Auto Parts will host its third tournament.
Captains of the league will have an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. On Saturday, April 20, the League will host its workday from 9 to 11 a.m., rain or sunny side up. This is where the league will go out and get the courts ready. If you’re interested in learning more or getting more information on this fun sport, come on out and check it out.
