Sheridan Historical dinner set

The annual dinner meeting of the Sheridan Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 in the Community Room of the Sheridan Public Library. This event always features an interesting program or guest speaker and also serves to showcase the highlights of the Society’s activities over the past year.

Marsh

This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Bret Marsh, the Indiana State Veterinarian who grew up in Marion Township and graduated from Sheridan High School. Dr. Marsh has served as the State Veterinarian since January 1994. Marsh has spent his entire career with the Indiana Board of Animal Health, holding positions such as Director of Swine Health Programs and as a supervisor and training officer in the meat and poultry inspection area.

Marsh is on a special detail for the USDA Secretary’s Homeland Security Staff, has been President of the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, and served as the First Vice President of the U.S. Animal Health Association. He has served in the AVMA House of Delegates for nearly a decade. Marsh was given the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1997 by Governor Evan Bayh and is a graduate and Distinguished Alumnus of both Purdue’s School of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Agriculture.

Sheridan Historical Society Vice President Steve Martin said, “Dr. Marsh gave a presentation to the Sheridan Rotary Club last summer and he absolutely hit it out of the park with his factual tales of what his responsibilities are as the State Veterinarian, the challenges he faces every day and the unsung heroes who make up the members of his organization. Whether you are familiar with Dr. Marsh and his family or not, this is an opportunity to get to know one of Sheridan’s finest graduates. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with his talk.”
