The Sheridan girls basketball team took care of business at its own holiday tournament on Friday, getting two easy wins for the trophy.
The Blackhawks beat Seeger 68-46 in their semifinal game. Sheridan blasted out to a 23-7 lead after the first quarter, then rolled to a 43-15 halftime advantage. Kenzie Garner poured in 12 points in the first period and had 16 for the half. Shelby Eaton added seven in the second quarter.
The Patriots played even with the ‘Hawks in the second half, but Sheridan’s large lead was too much to overcome. Garner scored seven more in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 25 points. Eaton totaled 11 points and Cecilia Timme scored 10.
The Blackhawks beat Class 2A No. 9 Eastern Hancock 57-36 in the championship, a re-match of last season’s 2A South semi-state semifinal game. Sheridan outscored the Royals 18-9 in the first period, with Mackenzie Smith getting six points.
The ‘Hawks would outscore Eastern Hancock in each quarter, leading 28-18 at halftime and 44-25 after three periods. Garner went off in the second half for 19 points and four 3-pointers; she finished with 24 points. Timme and Smith each scored eight.
Sheridan is 12-1 for the season. The Blackhawks are off until Jan. 8 when they play at University.
