The young players on the Sheridan football team got a lesson from a senior-laden Western Boone squad Friday at Bud Wright Stadium.
The Stars beat the Blackhawks 35-12 in the season-opening game. WeBo led 28-0 at halftime. Sheridan scored both of its touchdowns in the second half, with Peyton Cross punching the ball in from the one-yard line in the third quarter, and Zach Bales making a 20-yard dash in the fourth quarter.
Cross led the Blackhawks’ rushing with 20 yards.
“They had 20 seniors and it’s pretty hard,” said Sheridan coach Bud Wright. “We had a lot of young kids playing and they’re learning.” Wright said his team learned “a lot” when the Blackhawks played their scrimmage at Crawfordsville last week, “so hopefully they can learn a lot from this ball game.”
Sheridan goes on the road next week, playing at Clinton Central, an old rival and Hoosier Heartland Conference opponent.
