Students and staff at Sheridan Elementary School (SES) were in for an exciting and fun-filled celebration of reading for Read Across America.
The events brought the school together to celebrate and share in the joy of books with many creative and interactive activities.
To start off the festivities, teachers distributed paper hearts for students to fill out with their names and the titles of their favorite books. These colorful hearts were displayed in the hallways outside of classrooms, proudly showcasing the wide variety of books that the SES students love and are inspired by. It was heartwarming to see how much enthusiasm our students had for sharing their love of reading.
On Monday, March 3, students participated in the Book Character Parade. Kindergarten and first-grade students amazed everyone with their dazzling costumes as they paraded around the building, representing their favorite book characters. Second- through fifth-grade students cheered them on and contributed to the fun and festive atmosphere. So many beloved and well-known characters came to life during this wonderful sight.

The students also enjoyed a special surprise during lunch: the SES Masked Reader event. Teachers and staff members dressed up and read short picture books while hidden behind inflatable costumes. Students eagerly tried to guess who the “masked” readers were, making for a playful, engaging, and interactive experience. The excitement and laughter filled the cafeteria, and it was a great way to get everyone involved in the magic and joy of reading.
This year’s Read Across America celebration at SES was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see so many students, teachers, and staff come together to celebrate the love of reading. Sheridan Elementary School can’t wait to continue inspiring a passion for books in the school community.
