Sheridan Community Schools’ music program, including choir and band, has enjoyed a year of growth and success, especially at the elementary level.
Last week, Sheridan Elementary celebrated many musical “firsts” that show the students, staff, and families enthusiasm for music in the district.
This year, Sheridan Elementary music teacher Gretchen Rafferty offered choir three times a week. This increased access has led to a formation of fourth-grade and fifth-grade choirs. On Tuesday, April 22, these choirs gave their final performance of the year in the Sheridan Middle/High School Auditorium.
Rafferty said it was a fun experience for all.
“The kids loved it and the parents had a chance to see and hear their kids in an environment specifically designed for performance,” she said.
The week of “firsts” continued on Thursday, April 24 with the second- and third-grade performances. Due to very large audiences for the elementary music programs, there were separate programs so that anyone who wanted to attend could do so.

Thursday’s choir concert honored the eight-grade and senior choir members as they near the end of middle and high school. It was special evening, especially for the seniors.
With growing participation, new opportunities, and community support, the music program at Sheridan ensures that the tradition of excellence and promises to showcase the incredible talent growing within. The future is full of promise as these programs continue to thrive.
