Sheridan Community Schools launches Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame

As Hardwood Homecoming festivities approach, Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) is launching its first distinguished alumni class.

SCS has a long tradition of excellence, which has been built through the dedication, talent, and leadership of its students, alumni, and employees. The inaugural class includes 11 individuals who have inspired generations both in the classroom and in the community. These individuals have made a difference and left their mark on Sheridan. Their passion and commitment to everything Sheridan reflects what it means to be a Blackhawk.

The class will be formally inducted during the Hardwood Homecoming doubleheader game on Friday, Jan. 30. Along with the other numerous festivities throughout the week, these individuals will be honored for their achievements and lasting impact on SCS.

Please join in on the festivities as these remarkable individuals are recognized and celebrated for their dedication to the Sheridan Blackhawks.

Al Youmans

Al Youmans devoted more than 30 years to education as a teacher, counselor, principal, and coach. While at Sheridan, he was a visionary leader by helping to establish the Honors Program, launching the Outstanding Alumnus Award, and strengthening community connections through the Parent Advisory Committee. He earned multiple regional and state administrative honors and remained deeply involved in school and community life even in retirement through Rotary, his church, and alumni outreach.

Larry “Bud” Wright

Larry “Bud” Wright is a legendary Indiana high school football coach and the longtime leader of the Sheridan Blackhawks. Over 60 seasons of coaching, with 59 at Sheridan, he became the winningest coach in Indiana history with 464 career victories as of 2025. Wright led Sheridan to nine IHSAA state championships and numerous postseason titles, building one of the state’s most respected programs. He was inducted into the Indiana High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002 and remains remembered not only for his success on the field but for his lasting impact as a mentor, leader, and symbol of Sheridan pride.

Dr. Paul Waitt

Dr. Paul Waitt devoted his life to medicine, education, and service to the Sheridan community. After attending Purdue University and Indiana University, he practiced as both a general physician and a general surgeon for nearly four decades, serving Riverview and Tipton Hospitals. A respected Fellow of the College of Surgeons, he also gave generously of his time as team physician for Sheridan athletics, a volunteer in Vietnam, and a longtime School Board member during the construction of the new high school. Dr. Waitt’s legacy reflects his great pride in Sheridan and his commitment to the community he called home.

John Perrine

John, a member of the Class of 2000, has built a distinguished career in public service as an Indiana State Police officer. He has made a lasting impact on Sheridan through safety trainings, committee leadership, and dedicated support for Sheridan Community Schools, helping ensure a safe and thriving learning environment. As a school board member and longtime coach for high school girls’ basketball and the Sheridan Community Recreation League, he has positively shaped the lives of countless students and athletes.

Karen (Kinkaid) Christian

Karen Christian devoted her career to serving Sheridan’s youngest learners as an early childhood educator. She founded Small Blessings Preschool and later brought it into Sheridan Community Schools, helping build the strong early learning program that exists today. Known for her commitment to children’s academic, social, and emotional growth, as well as her support of families and mentorship of fellow educators, Karen’s influence has shaped generations.

Kenneth Biddle

Kenneth Biddle was a lifelong agriculturalist, entrepreneur, and community leader whose vision helped shape Sheridan’s growth. He founded Biddle Precision Components in 1939 and later moved the business to Sheridan, contributing significantly to the town’s economic and industrial development. His legacy extends beyond business through the establishment of the Sheridan Airport, generous philanthropy via the Biddle Memorial Foundation, and support for preserving local history.

Kent Harris

Kent Harris devoted his entire career to Sheridan Community Schools, serving in a wide range of roles as an educator, coach, and administrator. His unwavering commitment to students and staff, combined with his positive and encouraging leadership, made him a trusted mentor and guiding presence throughout the district. Always willing to support others and strengthen community connections, his influence is reflected in the many individuals inspired by his example.

Martha (Richardson) Rockey

Martha Rockey devoted her life to education, service, and the Sheridan community. Teaching for more than 34 years, with 31 of them as a beloved second-grade teacher at Sheridan Community Schools, she became known for her deep love of reading and inspiration to both students and families. In retirement, Martha continued her service through Sheridan First United Methodist Church, supporting preschool programs, community meals, and homebound members.

Randy Brimberry

Randy Brimberry dedicated his career to Sheridan Community Schools as a teacher and coach, shaping the academic and athletic success of countless students. Known for his integrity, positivity, and mentorship, he influenced generations both in the classroom and on the field, helping define the Blackhawk spirit. Even in retirement, he continues to support Sheridan, attending events and encouraging students, embodying a lifelong commitment to the community.

Sharon Brimberry

Sharon Brimberry devoted many years to Sheridan Community Schools as a Business Teacher and Class Sponsor, creating a classroom that combined high expectations with engaging learning. Remembered for her passion and care for students, she positively impacted countless lives. Even in retirement, she continues to support the district through leadership roles on the Education Foundation Board, Sheridan Main Street, and the Jeep Invasion Committee, raising significant funds for the schools.

Mary Alice (Bowen) Godby

Mary Alice Godby devoted her life to service, care, and community, leaving a lasting legacy at Sheridan Community Schools. She served as Cafeteria Manager and affectionately became known as “Grandma Godby.” She provided much more than just a warm meal; she provided comfort, consistency, and genuine care to generations of students. Her unwavering commitment to Sheridan Schools and the community makes her richly deserving of induction into the Sheridan Blackhawk Wall of Fame.
