The Sheridan boys soccer team played its first home game of the season on Thursday, and it was worth the wait as the Blackhawks beat Tri-Central 3-0.
Kyle Eden scored all three goals for Sheridan. He scored the first on a fast break in the first half, then scored two more in the second half; first on a penalty kick and the second on a zig-zag drive through the Trojans’ defense.
Blackhawks goalkeeper Nick Roberts made nine saves. Roberts and Eden were named co-players of the game.
Sheridan is 2-2 for the season.
University cruised to a 6-0 win over Anderson Prep on Thursday.
Evan Coveney and Quentin Berry both scored two goals, while Gabe Mervis played in his first varsity match and scored one goal.
Guerin Catholic picked up a 4-2 win over Brownsburg on Thursday.
Matt Wright, Daniel Cloran, Tommy Hartman and Joe Lafiosca each scored goals for the Golden Eagles, who will play Trinity on Saturday afternoon.
Carmel got a nice Metropolitan Conference win over Lawrence Central 4-0 on Thursday.
Babacar Diatta, Baenan Mckeown, Luke Epple and Connor Smith each scored one goal for the Greyhounds, with Mckeown, Sam Thiel, Mohnish Pandey and Ted Piha each making one assist. Gabe Moorman got the shutout as goalkeeper.
“I am very proud of the effort tonight,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “I thought our team shape defensively was good and it helped transition us into our attack.”
Carmel will host Columbus North tonight for its Pack the House/Make Good Decisions/Indiana Lifelines Law game.
Hamilton Southeastern cruised past Kokomo 6-0 on Thursday.
The Royals got goals from Kam Greenwald, Jack Hyatt, Neel Wetzel and Isa Sayeed. Tyler Pulliam led the Southeastern backline as it recorded a shutout.
GIRLS GAMES
The Carmel girls team remained perfect in the Metropolitan Conference by beating Lawrence Central 4-0 Thursday at Murray Stadium.Emily Roper, Cassidy Eckstein, Susie Soderstrom and Kelsie James all scored one goal for the Greyhounds; James leads the teams in goals scored this season with five. Tamara Smith and Morgan Parker both added one assist each.
Carmel is 4-0 in MIC play and 7-0-2 overall. The ‘Hounds have another conference game Monday at North Central.
University won a Wednesday game with International 9-0.
Whitney Freeman scored four goals, Meggie Tanon had three, and Annie Klemsz and Ella Longoria both scored one.
“We are half-way through the regular season and are happy with our 6-1-2 record but looking forward to more wins in the second half of the season,” said Trailblazers coach Chris Morrison.
