Sheridan’s basketball teams found themselves frustrated by Hoosier Heartland Conference opponent Tri-Central twice on Friday night.
The Blackhawks girls played the Trojans at Hobbs Memorial Gymnasium in an early varsity-only game, and fell 39-33. Later, the Sheridan boys played Tri-Central at the Trojans’ gym, where they lost a tough one 53-50.
In the girls game, Tri-Central led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the ‘Hawks tied things up by halftime at 21-21. The Trojans’ defense took over in the third period, limiting Sheridan to just two points, and Tri-Central held that lead throughout the fourth.
Allie Delph scored 11 points for the Blackhawks, while Taylor Bates led the rebounding with eight. Kaylie Kantz collected six rebounds.
In the boys game, Sheridan got off to a great start, leading 14-3 after the first period. The Trojans took over in the second quarter, but the ‘Hawks were able to hold a 21-20 lead going into halftime. Both teams poured in 20 points in the third quarter, then Tri-Central moved ahead in the fourth.
Kyle Eden scored 14 points for Sheridan, followed by Ethan Moistner’s 12 and Nick Roberts’ 10. Nolan Buckner made three 3-pointers for nine points. Roberts earned a double-double as he also collected 10 rebounds; Moistner had five rebounds and two blocked shots. Silas DeVaney and Buckner both handed out four assists.
The Blackhawks girls are 1-5 in the HHC and 6-11 overall; they play at 6 p.m. tonight at Herron in a varsity-only game. The Sheridan boys are 1-4 in conference play and 3-8 overall; they go back on the road tonight to play at Fountain Central.
