Noblesville’s Shelby Tyler has advanced to the finals of the high jump competition at the IAAF World U20 Championships, which are taking place this week in Tampere, Finland.
Tyler is a senior-to-be for the Millers and a two-time IHSAA state champion in the high jump. She advanced to the finals at Tampere on Friday after clearing the automatic qualifying height of 1.84 meters, or 6 feet, 0.44 inches.
Tyler finished fifth in the qualifying round. She cleared her first two heights, 1.70 and 1.74 meters on the first try, then needed a second attempt before making 1.77 meters. After that, Tyler cleared 1.80 on her first try, 1.82 on her second attempt, and 1.84 meters on her first attempt.
Four jumpers tied for first place in the qualifying; all of them had no misses during the day at any of the heights. The top 12 qualifiers all advanced to the final round.
